A Creative’s Journey to the Olympics & Beyond: Meet Selim Nurudeen

Huge shout out to Jetaun Davis for the opportunity to tell my journey from the 2008 & 2012 Olympics to owning my own graphic design and multimedia firm!

Article:

Selim Nurudeen is the Owner and Creative Director at SinVista Creations, LLC, a graphic design and multimedia firm. He is a two-time Olympian who participated and was a semi-finalist in the 2008 (Beijing) and 2012 (London) Olympics in the Track and Field 110m hurdles representing his native country, Nigeria.

Selim earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Industrial and Product Design from the University of Notre Dame.  While at Notre Dame, Selim was an NCAA All-American and four-time Notre Dame Monogram winner for Track and Field. He’s earned a Master of Science in Design (MSD) degree from Arizona State University and a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in Corporate Finance from Florida International University.

In this episode, he shares:

  • Changes he made to his mindset and preparation to go from not making state finals in track to representing Nigeria in the 2008 & 2012 Olympics
  • What caused him to change his major from pre-medicine to industrial & product design
  • How having Attention Deficit Disorder served as his superpower in a way to enable him to be intensely focused on both his track performance and academics
  • How his design business started as a side hustle to earn money while he was training for the 2012 Olympics

Also mentioned in this episode:

The Mad Designer

I am a Mad Designer; meaning I create abominations that come to life and take over your business. I am also the Owner and Lead creative director of SinVista Creations LLC, a graphic design and multi-media firm. My role in this company has ranged from Logo/web design to finance/accounting to marketing strategies. This experience has triggered my interest in the area of business leadership and how my design sense can offer an innovation approach to business.
